Run with the Bulls

Posted By Guru4Travel on Jun 29, 2011 at 7:10AM

Maybe you’ve heard of the running of the bulls in Pamplona? This is a centrepiece of the San Fermin Festival which opens with a bang and 10,000 people jammed into Plaza Consistorial for the Txupinazo Ceremony on July 6th

The Bulls actually run every day through to the 14th (not just on the 6th) July so there is plenty of opportunity to see the spectacle of bulls chasing people. However both the opening Wednesday 6th and the following weekend are particularly packed, as weekend visitors from France and Spain throng the already packed streets. This is a crazy spectacle, with for once, the bulls chasing the people, rather than the people doing the chasing.

If you want to stay somewhere nice in Pamplona itself this year, you’ve probably missed it – as local hotels are few – and booked well in advance. Our best UHOTW recommendation is to stay somewhere a little more exciting, in the Rioja vineyard hotel of the Marques de Riscal, then hiring a car to enjoy the festival festivities.

Mark Regouby of Pamplona Balconies talks you through the event here in his YouTube clip. Watch and either grab a last luxury room at the Marques de Riscal - or put a note to book before March 2012 in your diary for next year!

Disclaimer: it is dangerous and there is the risk of serious injury: If you're planning to run, you'd better start training, and definitely watch the linked video.
