Kissing a Sea Cucumber

This aquarium is built into the landscape with turf roofs and the natural rocks integrated into the flooring. It offers a natural habitat for the thousands of fish found inside. As opposed to most aquariums, this one favors local species, so you can get a handle on what Norwegian seas are really like, and it underscores the importance of the fishing industry in this coastal city.
 
Aquariums are all about looking, but this one gives you a chance to touch as well, and the “fish petting tank” gave me a chance to feel some sea life I have never had the courage to touch before. You can pick up starfish, touch the nose and underbelly of a stingray and even handle a sea cucumber, those elongated blobs that look like you-know-what, found on most seabeds.
 
As I picked one up I was immediately dared to kiss it. Here is what ensued:
