Ana Yela Founder makes TEDx talk

Posted By PrincessRoxy on Apr 28, 2013 at 5:55PM

One of our boutique properties in Morocco - traditional Riad Ana Yela, has an amazing story, and GoUnusual is only able to tell a small part of it in the GoUnusual entry. Berliners Andrea Kolb and her husband Bernd are the owners and when they bought the dilapidated riad they chose to restore it without the use of electricity to encourage and support traditional craftsmen. Integration with the traditions to support the local community is a central part of the Ana Yela story and allows guests to better experience the wonders of Marrakech, supported by the community around them. The Kasbah du Toubakl near Imil in the Atlas mountains shares a very similar ethos, and is highly recommended if you're interested to consider a 2 centre stay in Morocco.

Recently Ana Yela was celebrated by TEDx, where Andrea was invited to share the stories that inspired her to help the local community, setting up a charity and school.

See Andrea's presentation here;

To learn more about the fantastic, hand crafted ipad covers, handbags and 'berber bags' that are made by Andreas sewing school, please check the link here www.abury.net/en

We particularly love the customisation faciliy, where you can select the design, background and thread colour yourself. For those that want to really appreciate the history that Andrea supports, look at the links about her BerberBags. Every one is a story in it's own right. <more here>

If you click the link below you can make a donation to the foundation too. No amount is too small.
