The Old Mount Gambier Gaol was opened in 1866 and closed as a prison in
1995.
Recently
refurbished and under new management the Gaol offers unique, affordable,
backpacker and boutique style accommodation in both cell and non-cell rooms to
travellers of all ages.
Having
travelled and worked throughout the world Managers Melissa and James have an
abundance of knowledge and experience in the hospitality industry and know what
travellers value and need during their stay.
Guests additionally have access to the many historic features of
The Old Mount Gambier Gaol;
The
prison chapel, library and lounge are converted to common areas equipped with
internet, colour television and sofas. The study area is the perfect place to
relax, read a book, surf the net or hang out with friends and family.
There are three
courtyards on site available to guests for outdoor activities including live entertainment and concerts.
Guests have
twenty-four hour access to the communal kitchens where they can prepare a
hearty meal or grab a quick snack. Food can be labelled and stored in the
communal fridges and tea, coffee, sugar and milk are supplied at no extra
charge.
The Old Mount Gambier Goal are
currently completing renovations to the Sports Bar and have a Café, beer garden
and meditation garden coming soon.
