Overlooking the breathtaking Storfjord and Sunnmøre Alps, Storfjord
Hotel was handbuilt by skilled craftsmen using traditional
Lafta (cross logging with whole timbers). This way of building has been
part of Norway’s culture for hundreds of years and houses still stand
today after many generations. Today’s modern technology does lend a
helping hand but original techniques remain the same. It’s atmosphere
and warmth is unique offering traditional and luxurious accommodation.
The hotel has six spacious rooms all individual in design and each with
luxury bathroom suite and some with classical four poster beds. Every
room has a balcony with magnificent views.
Dinner is served in the
timbered hall and drinks can be enjoyed in a relaxed atmosphere on the
gallery landing overlooking Glomset Bay, Storfjord and the Alps. A set
menu made from local ingredients of the highest quality is prepared by the hotels chef. Meals are planned in advance and any dietry restrictions or
vegetarian requests can be catered for.
Touring from the hotel
is stunning and dramatic in all directions with Aalesund and the
islands to the west and the dramatic scenery of the fjords and mountains
to the east. Storfjorden is the main fjord that connects with
UNESCO Heritage Geirangerfjord and nearby Hjørundfjord. There are summer boat
excursions to both fjords, which when combined with a car allow you to visit the towns and appreciate this picturesque landscape.
