About Residenza d’Arte

14th Century history combined with contemporary art outside Siena

Facebook

As soon as you go through the gate, you will appreciate the effort taken to convert this property into an artistic and poetic experience that combines the harmony of nature with bold, contemporary art. The combination makes the Residenza d'Arte a truly unusual place to stay.

It rises majestically on a splendid hill surrounded by cypresses and age-old olive trees, which act as picture frames for the stupendous panorama. The reception desk is in a large and pleasant hall where old beams and stone walls are mixed with pictorial, sculptural, and design works of art. The shapes and colors decorate the rooms, and the surrounding park. It is certainly an unusual (yet luxurious) place to stay.

Enrico and the reservations team welcome you to this historic corner of traditional Italy to sample the food, landscape and design of old and new.

Sleeping in an art gallery. There is nowhere in the world where you can sleep in a museum made up of over 800 works of art. Anna Izzo, the contemporary artist, has put all her work on display in this borgo that dates back to the 14th century. Her theme is woman, and the secrets and joys of womanhood, and her sculptures include enormous female figures, giant high heeled shoes, colourful butterflies clinging to the walls of the house, and oil paintings in every corner of every room. The furnishings and fabrics have been carefully chosen and the wildly differing details all come together with her expert touch. A stay here allows you to sleep with the art and feel its meaning in a deeper way, and no visit is truly complete without a guided tour by the artist herself. We were very lucky to have had a tour and hear her explanation of how and why each area was decorated as it was. Izzo is a woman whose creative energy is boundless and she has found her perfect outlet in this ancient residence, now a bone-fide museum... with beds.

This place is stunning! The grounds of the hotel are just beautiful and incredibly picturesque. Our room was very hip and our bed really comfortable! The breakfast was wonderful and the staff was extremely nice and especially accommodating with recommendations. It was, by far, my favorite place to stay in Tuscany and it is definitely worth the price.

We love this boutique hotel, and the reason is because we love art! Paintings, sculptures, design and unusual furnitures are located everywhere in the property and most of all in each room.

I will come back again in this incredible hotel the next may for my wedding anniversary, and i'm sure it will be beautiful and unforgettable like the first stay in 2005. Great views, romantic rooms, and great value!
