The Quartier Latin is an 18th century Jesuit church which has been restored and converted into a delightful, centrally located, hotel complex. It was considered sufficiently charming, that the company who completed the conversion created a specific hotel division to manage the church, rather than sell it on.
It’s a lovely place to stay, relax and be pampered – as well as a great place to eat or drink. The restaurant / brasserie offers a wide choice of meals and suggestions ranging from the fast lunch to the gourmet menu.
It began with an architectural competition…
On 7 November 1989, the Municipal Council of Marche-en-Famenne decided to sell the former Jesuit church as well as the school buildings by an invitation to tender-cum-competition.
The applicants were requested to submit a proposal for the renovation and re-use of this site, which had received "historic monument" status from the Royal Monuments and Sites Commission.
Although the winning bidder, HOUYOUX was initially only in charge of building and promoting the facility, the project proved so attractive that eventually HOUYOUX decided not only to retain ownership of it, but to manage it. This unusual diversification process by the company led to the creation of its third subsidiary on 25 June 1992: S.A. Quartier Latin.
Quartier Latin links terrific Belgian food and drink with historic surroundings and spa facilities – less than an hour from central Brussels.
