    Spotlight on Halloween…    
   

With Halloween celebrated by many at the end of October, UHOTW thought it might be interesting to investigate properties underground. Caves are one of the oldest of the accommodation entries highlighted in the UHOTW guide with some along the Loire River in France and in the Cappadocia region of Turkey dating back over 2000 years. New property Akkoy Everli is just such a historic entry, carved out of the soft Tufa limestone (or chalk in France), and these cool caves can offer luxurious accommodation options. Newer dwellings, such as Kokopelli’s cave and Beckham Creek Cavern in the USA include whirlpool baths and fitted kitchens, while those in Cooper Pedy in Australia range from the smallest single dwelling to escape the daytime heat – to a fully equipped underground hotel. In Switzerland, The Null Stern hotel launched this month is in a man-made underground nuclear bunker, with basic facilities – and down-to-earth humour...more
