WOW Rating Bar

The comment and ‘WOW’ ratings are also getting a lot of use - which helps us set the individual ‘WOW’ rating scores for properties on site. Don’t forget - the hotel ‘WOW’ ratings are based on your feedback, so post your comments and score to highlight if you think a property should be classified as more or less unusual.

New to the guide

Crane Hotel, Harlingen, Holland - This dockside crane has been converted into a luxury hideaway for two. Replacing the old external ladders with modern lifts to gain entry, the old machine room in the body of the crane has been transformed into a luxurious bedroom. Even though there is a luxury double shower and designer loo, the crane can still swirl around controlled from the comfort of the drivers cabin. Click here for further details. Crane Hotel
Controversy Tram B+B, Hoogwoud, Holland - These Dutch and German city trams have been transported to Hoogwoud, about an hour outside of Amsterdam and converted into 4 wonderfully themed tram bedrooms. With double bed, shower and toilet facilities and a sink top unit for drinks and snacks, these represent a fantastic Bed and Breakfast location.
Next to the trams is the home of owners Irma and Frank, who themselves sleep inside a London Double Decker bus. Their house is decorated with cars and staying here is worth the trip to escape busy Amsterdam life for a couple of nights.
Controversy Tram B+B, Hoogwoud

Residenzia Del Arte, Tuscany, Italy - Situated outside the 14th century village of Torrita di Siena, a few kilometers from Siena, Residenzia del Arte combines Italian charm, with contemporary art. Everywhere you look - Modern art, sculpture, pictures, painting and designs fill courtyards and rooms. Under trees and in bedrooms, in hallways and entrances. It is certainly an unusual (yet luxurious) place to stay when visiting this charming region of Italy.

Residenzia Del Arte

Lighthouse, Harlingen, Holland - Sister property to Crane Hotel, Harlingen lighthouse is not difficult to find - it is situated in the heart of the historic docks, rising above the dwellings around it. After climbing the 80 or so steps, you uncover a 3 story luxury haven, providing all-round panoramic views from your bedroom and upstairs lookout. Thankfully, the designers have ensured that the nautical theme is retained and the original lantern room at the top provides a VHF radio so you can hear the movements of the shipping traffic, as well as windspeed and direction meters. The outside balcony can also be accessed, should you wish to brave the elements yourself. Click here for further details.

Kadirs Treehouses, Olympos, Turkey
Following a fire, Kadirs treehouses is currently undergoing reconstruction.
“ We are already starting to rebuild. The fire damaged the main restaurant and many of the cabins but we still have kitchen facilities and two of the main bars and a few bungalows left. In fact there's even one American tourist still here.
We should be up and fully running in two months.”
More news on their reconstruction will be posted in the guide as it is received. Click here for further details.

Dog Bark Park, Cottonwood Idaho
Always a favourite with guide viewers, we are also happy readers of the Dog Bark Park newsletter, written by owners Frances and Dennis. The February edition gives a route itinerary for a vacation to north central Idaho with Dog Bark Park Inn as your “kennel central” as well as recipes and a sprinkling of jokes.
They note:
April 1st marks opening day for Sweet Willy (aka Dog Bark Park Inn B&B) this year. We have lots of availability for all three seasons although reservations to stay in the dog are coming in nicely. We invite you to make a return visit, or come stay for the first time. We’re family & dog friendly. Guests come for many reasons; just for the fun of the dog, for a getaway, birthdays, anniversaries, honeymoons, or other special occasions.
Check out the photo gallery we’ve added to their guide entry and perhaps consider registration to their newsletter yourself.
Dog Bark Park
Breakwater Lodge, Cape Town, Republic of South Africa
Cape Town has impressive credentials as a great destination vacation, and with the Football World Cup in 2008 interest will surely increase. Located at the thriving V&A Waterfront, Breakwater Lodge is gaining a reputation for comfort and excellent value for money.
They highlight – and we agree “Many Cape Town hotels, especially those on prime locations, come with steep room rates, but the Breakwater Lodge has reasonable tariffs. This means that your vacation to Cape Town won't cost you a fortune because there are better things to spend your money on than on Cape Town accommodation.“
Check out their guide entry here.
Breakwater Lodge
Kasbah du Toubkal, Morocco - This is an extraordinary venture, the product of an imaginative Berber and European partnership. Sharing the belief that the beauty of the Toubkal National Park should be accessible to all who respect it, the Kasbah has been transformed using traditional methods, from the home of a Feudal Caid into a variety of accommodation and event possibilities to meet differing requirements. The Kasbah is a welcoming environment for those seeking comfortable mountain refuge, and for those who wish for superb rooms in a stunning setting. The Kasbah du Toubkal is not a hotel in the traditional sense, it is more an extension of the hospitality that stems from the home of the Berbers who run it.
Please check out their Sponsored Cycle Event: Tangiers To Marrakech, 18th To 27th April 2007 too.
Find out more about the cycle ride and the incredible story of the Kasbah here by clicking on the website link provided in their guide entry.
