The third of the trio of unusual hotels in Harlingen, The Lilla Marras lifeboat provided sanctuary during 105 daring sea rescues between 1955 and 1979 along the English coast, saving 45 lives.
Restored by the same Harlingen team that brought the harbour crane hotel and lighthouse back to life, the Lilla Marras is indeed a work of art. The traditional lines of an ocean workhorse would suggest a sparse interior, however intelligent design and professional craftsmanship have created an overnight home equal to the most luxurious designer properties.
Breakfast of freshly baked bread (still warm from the bakers), boiled eggs and a continental cheese and ham selection is delivered by unseen housekeepers to the pilot cabin upstairs. It can be enthusiastically enjoyed on deck, or in the comfort of the aft cabin which provides day-time space.
