About Kruisherenhotel Maastricht
Sleep in a 15th Century monastery converted into designer hotel
Serving originally as a monastery and church for the Order of Kruisheren (Crutched Friar) since 1438, this building fell into disrepair in the 1980's. The transformation into a luxurious, contemporary designer hotel was undertaken by Camille Oostwegel who commenced large scale renovation in late 2000.
The character of the original monastery has been maintained in this complex project as although designer furnishings and modern amenities have been provided in rooms, they contrast with the stained glass windows, gothic vaulted ceilings and elegant stonework of the original building. Antiquity and modern design have been interwoven throughout. A mezzanine area has been created in the former nave of the church to provide a breakfast area with views of the town through the large windows of the former chancel. The nave area also houses reception and the hotel lobby, plus a wine bar for 'spiritual' refreshment. Side chapels are converted to lounge areas and the spacious stone corridors give a feeling of quiet reflection.

Rooms: Fifty rooms and suites in former cloisters
The bedrooms are housed in the former cloisters behind traditional solid oak doors that block unwanted noise from any guests unaware of how well sound travels along these stone corridors. Comfortably furnished, the rooms have wooden floors and quality designer fittings. Wall hangings, photographs and paintings tell stories of legends such as that of Saint Gertrude, patron saint of travelers and it is obvious that a lot of thought went into the restoration to retain the 'monastery mood'.
