My son & i stayed at Jollydays and i have to say it is one of the most tranquil places i have ever stayed. Situated in beautiful woodland just a short drive from York & the National Park it's a very well kept site made up of different size 'glamping' tents. in my opinion it's ideal for families with children who can explore the surroundings, safely, all day long. There are marked trails or you can just go 'off piste'. Everywhere you look there are small 'dens' and 'camps' from previous trepid explorers. The tents themselves are of varying size but are fully equiped with pretty much everything you will need. Just remember to take a couple of torches for outside at night. Although each tent has lantern, candles, tea lights etc. Showers & toilets (used by those in smaller tents that don't have their own) were spotlessly clean as is the site itself. The communal camp fire area was great fun with families & others coming together to toast marshmallows, burn sticks, swing on ropes, climb trees and generally have fun. There's also a pizza oven that everyone shares to cook pizza (see below for where to buy these) in a generous 30 seconds flat. Food & drink wise there is a Co-op supermarket a 5 minute drive away. There's also a fish & chip shop, a couple of take aways, news agents etc at the same location. Things to bear in mind: Cars are only allowed beyond the car park into the tented area for loading & unloading. At all other times you have to walk the 100 yards after parking. This ensures children and adults are in a relatively car free environment and safe when running around. The temperature does drop at night and although the tents have wood burning stoves and hot water bottles (nice touch!) you should pack your PJ's. There is little or no mobile phone signal on site. You might get lucky in a corner or up a tree somewhere but generally you will have nothing. To close i would say enjoy the silence, cook a pizza, open a bottle of wine and have a brilliant 'glamping experience' that your kids will talk about forever.
