Overview
About Hotel Brosundet
Dockside warehouse converted to boutique hotel
Sense history when you gaze out the
windows of Hotel Brosundet as 100 years ago you would have been waiting for a fishing-boat to deliver
its catch.
From the moment you first enter the hotel, it is obvious that the hotel
values its tradition and history, beautifully blended with today’s
world and the future. Each room is unique, designed by the world-famous
architects ”Snøhetta”, who designed the Opera House in Oslo and the
library in Alexandria. The result is a truly special experience.
The distinctive light at this northerly latitude of 62˚N creates a
special feeling. Experience it as you look out from the Hotel Brosundet
across the harbour at the small fishing boats or towards the distinctive
Art Nouveau styled buildings of the town of Ålesund. The hotel is a
superb example of this style and is one of only ten buildings in Ålesund
that are protected by a conservation order to preserve this unique
architecture.
Small and intimate with only 47 rooms, Hotel
Brosundet staff have an eye for each guest and take extra care
of every visitor.
Rooms are tastefully decorated to retain the character of the property, with clean Nordic style and modern facilities.
The hotel is a peaceful retreat in Aalesund, right in the heart
of this bustling and pretty town - voted as one of Norways finest
destinations.
Peaceful, restrained, full of character.

The hotel is in the old seafront building on Brosundet, built in Art Nouveau style
following the catastrophic town fire of 1904 is created around the idea of treasuring
history, while focusing on the future. The atmosphere is light. It is
intimate and friendly, yet each room is a sanctuary for your privacy.
This is a place to dream on a pillow by the sea. Each room has been
individually created in respect to the building's past through the
designs and comforts of today.
FOOD!
The old warehouse, used for the storage
and treatment of salted fish right up to the 1980s is, yet again, receiving seafood from the
North Sea. The seafood restaurant, Maki, recognised as one of Norway’s
best restaurants, completes your stay at Hotel Brosundet. The circle is closed. However this time around the seafood
is not just passing through the warehouse, but enhanced to ambrosial
dishes by the chefs at Maki. Maki’s ideology prides itself on creative
and innovative use of the region's fish and seafood. Through the hands
and gifted minds of skilled chefs, their seafood becomes a delightful
experience. The menu changes every 14 days. A challenge for creative
chefs, and an exploration for the guest.
ROOM 47
The jewel in the Hotel
Brosundet treasury-box is Room 47. Only a few
minutes walk from the hotel lies the old and picturesque seawall of
Molja. Room 47 is the old lighthouse at the end of the rocky wall and has its own entry in the UHOTW guide as Molja Ligthouse. Just 12 m2 and circular, the lighthouse has been restored and furnished with a bed and bathroom facilities of the finest
quality. Room 47 is a hide-away and a thrilling experience. You should
share it with someone special!

Map & Activities
Hotel Brosundet is nestled amidst residential homes, distinguished
shops, seabirds, and boats. It is in the heart of Aalesund, yet at a
comforting distance from busy streets. Everything is within walking
distance. Five minutes on your feet can take you to a glassblower
workshop, concert venue, bank, café, church, art and Art Nouveau museum,
or shopping centre.
Aalesund is situated on islands in the midst of the frothing sea. Like a
fairytale vision the art nouveau buildings of the town centre rise up
from the rough sea. The town is surrounded by fantastic scenery. To the
west, a chain of islands create a rocky necklace to give
Aalesund shelter from the rough North Sea. To the east the sun
rises from behind snow-capped Alps.
There is drama in every direction. No wonder cruise ships visit!
