Suspended tent hotel in London for 2012
This isn't the Holiday In.... it's the Holiday Out.
A stone's throw from the 2012 Olympic Park site in the Wick Community Woodland, this tent hotel starts taking bookings from the end of March as a hotel option for those visiting the Olympics.
While it won't provide the 5 Star accommodation worthy of athletes, sponsors, or perhaps the IOC, ordinary mortals with golden tickets to attend the games might find these 9 suspended tents a great low-cost choice.
These temporary tents avoid regulations that are applied to fixed structures - and most cleverly of all, since they don't actually touch the ground, escape normally required planning applications for any structures in protected woodland - and specific regulations near the Olympic Park site.
Register to get further details and early booking information when the site goes live at the end of March.
There are 9 tents, suspended between 1 and 5 meters high in these oak, ash and birch trees.
Facilities are basic, though sleeping bags and liners are provided, and there is a "Royal Box" provided as an eco loo, complete with portrait of famous Queens - HRH, George Michael, and Elton John. Food options are nearby, and even if you're not a ticket holder to the games, there will be an amazing atmosphere on the site.
Each tent has been named after native woodland tree species of the UK
3 person tents
If demand is sufficient, the owners plan to provide 2 dormitory tents, sleeping 9
About the Tents
These British made tents are the latest thing for safari and extreme terrain.
Tension components are made from 5 tonne ratchet straps and can take up to 900kg in dynamic load.
There is no problem getting 8 people and their luggage as high up into the tree as you dare to go....
Entry is via an anchored rope ladder attached to the ground and tent to minimise swinging.
The hammocks are fully enclosed so there is never a problem of having a cold back.
Each hammock arm has a full retractable fly sheet, allowing you to lie in the open under the stars...enjoying the summer skies, or fireworks!
Insect meshes are available for those that feel they need them.
There are a host of sports facilities locally - Tennis, Swimming, Gym, Jogging etc., However, these are not available during the period of the Olympic events. Unless of course you're in a national team!
You're a 10 minute canal walk from the Olympic park, under the A12, in Hackney Wick.
Nearest Rail station is Leyton.
There are lots of shops in nearby Homerton, where you'll also find takeaways and restaurants.
