Gourmet B&B in a Victorian chapel
Featuring fresh and local produce, Gothic View combines the charm of an original chapel, with comfortable rooms and succulent gourmet meals which are lovingly prepared by Claude, jovial French Chef and husband of Anne Marie.
With decades of experience heading the kitchens of some of the most prestigious hotels and restaurants in the UK and France, Claude now enjoys serving his French inspired dishes in a homely atmosphere where guests become part of the family.
The Old Chapel is Victorian with many original features. Set in rural countryside within easy reach of many beautiful beaches and local tourist attractions it is a fantastic base from which to explore the Island.
Gourmet Alert! Great food and hospitality at Gothic View
Each of the 3 rooms are cosy and comfortable, and there is parking on the road outside.
One is a family room which can be one double room with a connecting twin room with en-suite bathroom/shower wc.
The other room is a twin / double with attic style shower, wc and private patio.
Anne Marie and Claude are wonderful hosts, speaking both French and Italian. Whether you are staying for the night, or simply want to enjoy a special meal, you'll enjoy the rooms, food, and if wished, company - perhaps becoming one of their many regular visitors.
Gourmet meals start from £30 a head, including a starter, main course and desert. They don't have an alcohol licence to allow them to sell wine, so ask you to bring a bottle of your favourite - or can recommend local choices. All ingredients are sourced fresh from around the Island, so please book in advance.
Claude takes a lot of pride in his cuisine - both for dinner and breakfast. Anne Marie equally takes great care to ensure that the rooms are warm and welcoming.
Double Rooms are from £70 per night.
Gothic View are a 3 star rated AA bed and breakfast and are listed on Enjoy England.
They have an Egg Cup award for Best Breakfast and a Pie/Dinner award for evening meals, awarded from the AA.
The property is Non-Smoking throughout.
Lovely beaches are a short drive away, and the Isle of Wight retains its turn of the century Victorian charm, with a village feel to the Island.
Families enjoy visits to the Blackgang Chine Adventure park, 5 minutes drive from Gothic View as well as nature walks to St Catherines Point and the Lighthouse.
5 minutes walk will lead you to Chale Green, for it's deli and cafe. Picnic lunches can be ordered from Claude and are recommended if you're walking. The sea air earns an appetite! Alternatively the WightMouse pub serves food about 10 mins drive away.
From the Old Gaffers boats in Yarmouth, to the World renowned Isle of Wight music festival, there is something for all ages at all times of the year on the Island.
Visit Bembridge Windmill, or the Steam Railway. The yacht haven of Cowes or the Esplanade at Ventnor (for the best fish and chips too!). Inland there are castles and churches, walks and potteries to visit. On the coast curio shops, and fantastic seafood shacks.
Anne Marie is also a well regarded for her Island Chic fashion label, and UHOTW recommend you check out her fantastic scarves, shawls and style accessories not only at Gothic View, but also when she displays at shows and craft fayres during the year.
