From its origin in the 16th century (1537), the Domaine was a Royal hostelry – staging post, where “Francis the First” and his second wife “Eleanor of Austria”, “Catherine de Medici” and the future King “Henri IV” as well as “Louis XIII” accompanied by Cardinal Richelieu, had sleeping accommodation. In 1564, King Charles IX spent a night in his carriage parked in the courtyard.
The chronicle of Michel de Nostredame, better known under his Latin name Nostradamus, suggests he stayed a few days in the inn.

The rooms have been recently renovated, each with unique décor. Rooms have their own bathroom, some of them with a bath imitating the styles of an earlier period in a baroque decor, others with big Italian showers in a mellow atmosphere. There are arched ceilings in some cases, mouldings in others, with each room well furnished with quality fittings.

The grounds of the property have not only outdoor pool facilities, but enclosed, private space for families to share time together.

Location:
From the North of Europe: Highway A7 via Lyon and Orange.  Then, highway A9 to Nîmes. Exit to Remoulins.
From the South of Europe: Highway A9 via Montpellier and Nîmes. Exit to Remoulins. 
The Domaine des Escaunes is located 15 minutes from these exits.

Activities:

The village of Sernhac has a small valley, 1km from the estate where you’ll find relics of the Pont du Gard Aqueduct. You can visit these tunnels with a guide by arrangement with the property.

 
From Sernhac, you also have a GR6 which will bring you to the  historic Pont du Gard about 90minutes away.

 
You have several possibilities around the Domaine des Escaunes :

• For people very fond of gastronomy: Wine taste, local products taste, cooking workshops, etc.
• For people fund of sport, nearby the estate, a lot of sporting activities: golf, horse-riding, mountain bike, quad biking, tennis, canoeing, Ledenon circuit and Alès-Cévennes, walking in the Garrigue,
• Excursions or guided tours: the Pont du Gard, Avignon, Nîmes, Uzès, the Luberon, the Alpilles, etc.

It is also possible to rent mountain bikes for a day.
