About Castle Cottages Treehouse

Treehouse, cottage and barn surrounded by ancient woodland

** The Treehouse is currently fully booked until Oct 2012, although there are often rooms in the cottage available **

Situated within the grounds of “Coates Castle”, a Strawberry Hill Gothic mansion, owner Alison and Ron have created three unique rooms in a treehouse, barn and country cottage. Their guests agree that a warm welcome and relaxing stay is guaranteed in this site surrounded by pretty gardens and woodland. The Treehouse is built into a huge sweet chestnut tree on the edge of a wood, and a substantial staircase leads upstairs.

There is a thatched room with a double bed set between the tree branches, looking out through large glass doors to the treetops. The room has an en suite shower with a glass roof and is covered with handmade mosaic titles. A large balcony with swing seats is an added touch for lazily reading the Sunday papers or evening drinks.

While the Treehouse is particularly recommended, memorable breakfasts are served for all guests, using organic free-range eggs and quality sausages and bacon. They are served in the heated conservatory or outside the walled garden during the summer.

Was booked to stay at the treehouse for one night only. Upon arriving noticed that the treehouse appeared very much in need of a bit of DIY. Board walk was broken, steps leading up were green and worn. The swing seat was completely green. Spider webs and cobwebs were all over the glass doors and up above you. No one seemed to have given it a tidy up for quite some time. So disappointed. Unfortunately my partner gave the owner the £80 outstanding before we could discuss this. We decided to leave and find somewhere else to stay for the night and get our money back. No one answered the door or the telephone despite us ringing both, and despite the owner only going back indoors minutes before. A complete let down

My husband and I have just got home from the most blissful relaxing night sleep in the Barn. I couldn't recommend highly enough. The setting is idyllic, the bed just allows you to melt into a slumber, the breakfast was divine. The only minor negivite being the deep cast iron bath tub. My husband being unawares ran me a lovely candlelit bath, without having held some hot water first, thus stopping the bath absorbing the waters heat. Never the less I enjoyed my soak, it's was just mildly shorter than I would have planned.

We stayed at this hotel for one night in Summer 2010. Because the treehouse was booked we stayed in the barn, which looked nice, but was very run down and very moldy smelling. Luckily we could keep the windows open. The owners were very nice, and mabye tree tree house is worth it but the other rooms, I don't think so.
