Princess
Roxy packs up for the Isle of Wight: it will
be a real adventure, visiting three unusual and totally unique places to stay.
Straight
off the ferry and about a half hour south is the Gothic View, where Claude and
Anne Marie are the affable hosts. The Anglo/Franco couple have had an
adventure-filled life and chef Claude has catered to some of the crème de la
crème. It just happens to be dinner time, so show me what you've got, Claude!
The starter
was a home-made meat terrine accompanied by asparagus, cooked to perfection,
followed by a lamb chop, potatoes and the best skinny green beans I've ever
tasted. There's no licence for alcohol but you are welcome to bring your own. The
cosy bedroom overlooked a little courtyard and the comfy beds had me in
dreamland in no time.
Next morning,
after a fab breakfast (love that yoghurt!), a little tour of the house... or rather
ex Gothic church. I'm shown where the preacher's pulpit was located, now home
to the commode (oh heavens). The B + B offers three rooms, one of which is for
families, and each unit has its own private bath. Anne Marie is also a fashion
designer and she will be happy to show you her creations if you ask. Claude doesn't
need much prodding to recount a few stories from his "bad boy" past.
Fun place, cool
couple!
