Located 60 miles northeast of Fairbanks , Chena Hot Springs became famous for curing crippled prospectors of their aches and pains as long ago as 1905. By 1911, the property boasted a stable, bathhouse and twelve small cabins for visitors. The resort was on its way to becoming one of the premier resorts of Interior Alaska as the fame of the hot springs spread.
Over time the 440-acre resort is known for its healthy outdoor opportunities in the pristine wilderness of Alaska 's great Interior. Snowshoe, aurora gaze, cross-country ski, ride snowmobiles, get a massage, eat, drink, relax and revitalize your spirit.
Northern Lights Wake-up calls - If you are staying in one of our hotel rooms and wish to be awakened when our night staff sees the lights, we can wake you up. But because the lights undulate and move so quickly, sometimes by the time we see them and you get up and get dressed to get outside, they are gone...so we highly recommend you take a nap and be ready to stay up late and watch for them yourself.
Aurorarium - This is a free warm lookout building with large plate-glass windows facing northeast. The building is a short walk from the lodge and can hold 20 people comfortably.
Snow Coaches - our most popular winter activity is taking one of these large track vehicles to the top of the ridge to get unobstructed views of the northern lights. We leave nightly at 10 pm and return at 2 am. There is a heated yurt for your comfort and we serve hot drinks such as tea, cider and hot chocolate inside. For more information, check out Snow Coach Rides on our activities page. This only operates when there is sufficient snow cover on the ground so the snow coach doesn’t harm the trail.
