Plane converted to luxury suite for couples
Once the transport for top bosses of the German Democratic Republic government, this 1960 Ilyushin 18 has been converted to a single luxury suite for 2. The plane is 40 metres long and now comes equipped with a little more luxury than it's former owners would have approved of - let alone publicly enjoyed!
With a Jacuzzi, shower, infrared sauna, mini bar, flat screen TV's (three of them!), Blu-ray DVD / entertainment combo (plus a selection of DVD's), and a pantry with coffee/tea making facilities, oven/microwave etc. you can enjoy a great deal of comfort - while still sleeping on a plane.
Planes can be a bit stuffy inside, so they've included air conditioning too, so you're assured of a level of overnight comfort.
And of course... the cockpit is left untouched, so although flights are limited to your dreams, there is plenty of airplane fun to be had as you pretend to be pilot and chief steward or stewardess!
This plane flew dignitaries including Erich Honecker during it's early life as a political transport for the favoured government leadership. Converted to commercial airline use in 1964, it flew up to 120 passengers and 4 crew in slightly less comfort with East-German airline, Interflug until 1986. Destinations included Cuba, China and Vietnam as well as Soviet bloc Russia.
After the German unification the plane served as a restaurant for 15 years until it was acquired in 2007 and converted to a hotel.
Teuge airport is at the centre of the city triangle of Deventer, Apeldoorn and Zutphen. These historic cities offer a varied shopping experience with some nice boutique shops.
From your airplane suite, you have a view of the taxi areas and runway at Teuge airport. While at the airport, you can book an aerial experience tour, by plane or helicopter, and for those with a more serious interest in flight, book a flight lesson if you want to ride the skies!
For thrill seekers, consider a parachute jump or a ride with a stunt plane!
Nature lovers might wish to visit the Veluwe nature reserve to that is a haven for fliers of the feathered variety or Bussloo, a recreation area that offers swimming, fishing, hiking, golfing, horseback riding and diving facilities. You'll also find Thermen Bussloo, an exclusive sauna, beauty and spa resort. If spas are your preference, an alternative is Veluwsebron, a five-star sauna complex. For those that enjoy golf, there are several good courses in the area open to non-members.
